ABOUT US
Welcome! We are glad you are here and want to introduce ourselves. Dr. Lila Schmidt decided to specialize in Gynecology/Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility to help women fulfill their many roles. At University of Southern California (USC) she earned both her Bachelor of Science. (Psychobiology honors major) followed by her Medical Degree.
She did her Obstetric/Gynecology residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical center in Beverly Hills. Upon completion of her Reproductive Endocrinology/Infertility (REI) fellowship at University of California, Irvine Medical Center (UCI), and passing written OB/GYN and her REI boards, she moved to San Diego to begin private practice in September of 1993.
Additionally, Dr. Schmidt holds specialized credentialing in the operative specialties of infertility, from Advanced Operative Laparoscopy to Advanced Endoscopic Surgery. She is widely published in the field of infertility, from medical texts to state-of-the-art fertility journals. One of her most noteworthy Fertility and Sterility published studies, is now an industry standard. It is titled "Can a Single, Early Quantitative Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) Measurement in an in Vitro Fertilization-Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer Program Predict Pregnancy Outcome?" (The answer is yes). Dr. Schmidt is a distinguished lecturer at universities, and has been heard on television and radio. Currently she is working on a segment soon to air on Dateline. Visit our IN THE NEWS page.
Dr. Schmidt, born and raised in Arcadia (a suburb of Los Angeles), is happily married to a native San Diegan, and from infertility therapy (IVF), has a child. She enjoys cross-stitching, snow-skiing, dancing, is active in her church, and MadCaps (Mothers and Daughters Club Assisting Philanthropies).
This is a unique medical practice, different than you are probably accustomed to. Dr. Schmidt has a particular interest in maximizing personalized care of each and every patient. As such, you have 100% of your care by only by Dr. Schmidt, there is no handing off to an ancillary care giver such as a physician's assistant or nurse practitioner. and no pre-determined protocols that you are slotted into. Each treatment plan is particularly tailored to your unique needs. We have intentionally kept this practice intimate with personalized one on one care. A benefit to the patient is that you interact directly with Dr. Schmidt, and the "challenging thing" is you interact directly with Dr. Schmidt who thinks fast and speaks even FASTER! Dr. Schmidt is committed to the care of her patients, and the more committed she is caring for them the fasters she thinks and thus speaks! Therefore, tell Dr. Schmidt if you do not understand or if she is speaking too quickly and she will repeat and slow down. To facilitate communication we suggest that you write down all of your questions as you think of them, having your list with you when you come to your appointment or call (i.e. for test results) and write down the answers for your future review. It is a known fact that, the more active a patient is in their healthcare, the better their outcome. Thus it is the policy of Dr. Schmidt that before you leave your appointment, you will schedule to call Dr. Schmidt for your results that evening via a set telephone appointment time. If it is after hours, Dr. Schmidt will give you her home and cell telephone numbers. Dr. Schmidt has "an open IUI sperm preparation policy", another unique aspect of an Infertility Center. You are encouraged to observe the entire process of the processing of your sperm. Thus you are assured the sperm you receive in your procedure is yours and yours alone.

OFFICE MANAGER - Didi
I was born and raised in Kazakhstan, the 9th largest country in the world. We are a proud country with roots that date back to Genghis Kahn. Our native language is Kazak, however we also speak Russian. I received a bachelors degree in English and Social Communications, which enabled me to volunteer at an orphanage for special needs children. My patience was quite a gift in this position, as well as in being a tutor to Russian children.
My adventurous side caused me to decide to travel to San Diego. I love this city and its people. My ability to speak three languages has helped me to communicate with people of many different backgrounds and heritages. I heard of Dr. Lila Schmidt's practice through a friend, who told me that the goal of the practice was to help women achieve their dreams. That knowledge sparked my interest, and I decided I wanted to be a part of this amazing experience. I love working with the patients, and it's my desire to leave them with a great lasting impression.

IVF COORDINATOR - Nikki
I was born in Oklahoma City, OK and made my way to California by way of Virginia, Scotland and Kansas. I spent several years in Virginia as a volunteer EMT/Firefighter and found that training to come in handy when my interests turned to birth and babies. I trained as a doula (professional labor assistant) in 2003, started my nursing school classes in 2008 and got my phlebotomy certification in 2009. I plan on continuing in that educational vein by getting my childbirth education certification and finishing up nursing school. I speak some Spanish and I am fluent in ASL (American Sign Language).
I am married and have a 5 year old daughter. I met Dr. Schmidt when I began experiencing difficulty conceiving my second child in 2007 and she and I hit it off right away. I came back to work with her (now that #2 is on the way) because I believe deeply in her, in her practice and I want to help her care for her patients. I want to be able to bring about positive change in the world and to really make a difference. I want to help women who are experiencing the emotional and physical pain and difficulty of infertility and to help them keep up hope and I believe that I can do that here, in this practice, one woman at a time.
